Solange

This is Solange. She is 10 years old and lives in Recife in Brazil. Solanges home is on the edge of a rubbish dump. Solanges family looks through the rubbish on the dump for plastic bottles which they sell to be recycled. This is the rubbish dump where Solange lives. It is dirty and dangerous. This is the rubbish dump where Solange and her family live. This is Solange collecting rubbish that she can sell for recycling. Solange feeds the pigs with her sister Geanine. The pigs live on the dump.

Jack

This is Jack and his sister Sarah. Jack loves to make Sarah laugh. Jack helps to feed his sister Sarah through a feeding tube. Jack helps his mum by making lunch. Jack can talk through his problems and worries with the project workers at the Ormiston Fenland Young Carers Project.

Jessica

This is Jessica. She is 12 years old and lives in a favela which is a type of slum. It is in a very dangerous area of Recife. This is Jessica with her family. Her mother used to drink a lot and Jessica would have to look after her brothers and sisters. Now all of the family go to Passage House together and the project workers have helped Jessica's mum to stop drinking. This is a favela which is where Jessica lives. A favela is a type of slum. Favela houses are made from rubbish, bricks or stone. Jessica lives in a very dangerous area of Recife where there are often shootings.

Martin

This is Martin. He is 15 years old and lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Martin lives in Belfast in Northern Ireland. There has been fighting in Martins area for hundreds of years over whether Northern Ireland should be part of Ireland or the United Kingdom. But the situation is improving and is more peaceful now. There is not very much for young people to do where Martin lives and there is a real problem with alcohol and drugs.
