Pass-a-Mile - football activity to develop coordination and accuracy in passing
Resources: Size 3-4 footballs; safety markers

- Students should form small groups with an even number of players in pairs
- Players should be facing each other about 10m apart
- In between the two players place two safety markers about 1 metre apart
- Players pass the football to each other through the safety markers as many times as they can.
- Each pass counts as 10m and 170 passes = a mile
- Eight pairs would have to make 22 passes each, so the number of miles should soon build up

Crazy Golf - competition activity to develop accuracy and coordination.
Resources: boxes, buckets, old toilet roll holders, golf clubs, golf balls

- The first challenge is for students to make their own golf holes using old boxes, and toilet rolls
- You could hold a competition for the most creative end piece
- Students then put together their golf course in the playground or hall and charge people to play a round
- Compete in teams to see who can finish the course first

Find-a-mile - Outdoor and adventurous activity which helps develop direction and map reading skills.
Resources: Map; letters marked M, I, L, E and four other letters

- Use a rough map of the school site and mark 8 points on the map with numbers 1-8
- Leave all the Ms at one number, the Ls at another number etc.
- Students start from a central point pick a number and run to where that number is marked on the map
- The challenge is to find all the letters to make up the word M,I,L,E, then return to the central point

Square Mile - a football activity to develop coordination and ability to move with the ball
Resources: Size 3-4 footballs, safety markers

- Mark out a square 10m x 10m
- Break up into groups of 8, with two players standing at each corner of the square
- Players must dribble a football 10m, and then give the ball to another player to continue
- Start with one ball and then gradually increase the number of balls according to the skill level
- Play until players have dribbled the ball or balls for one mile.
- This could be adapted for wheelchair users by allowing them to pass the ball in an appropriate way, either by carrying the ball on the lap or by using the hand or chair to move the ball

Sharpshooters - football activity to develop coordination and accuracy

- Make four goals by placing 5 safety markers in a line at 2m intervals,
- Students should shoot at the goal, trying to score in each one, starting close and then moving further away
- Make sure someone stands behind the goaks to field the balls

Make a mile - gymnastic activity exploring shapes and rolling
Resources: Matted or safe area for lying and rolling

- Students need to get into groups of four
- Show the students how to work together to make the shapes.
- M – group of 4 people
- I - individually with full extension
- L – group of 2 people
- E – group of 4 people
- Ask the students to make a rolling sequence, making each of the letters in turn and then rolling to their next position
- This activity could be extended using other words or letters

- M – legs apart and arms in a V formation, pointing downwards
- I - both arms together, palms inward
- L – both arms out to left or right with palms together
- E- facing sideways with both arms out one above the other and one leg raised
- Practise the movements and then ask the students to make up a Sport Relief cheer like this:
- We will make some students smile
- Because we can make a mile
- Walking, jogging, running too
- We will make a mile for you
- M-I-L-E
- Mile!!!!
The Sport Relief school cheer could be performed at assembly, for parents or at the Sport Relief fundraising event.

Total team play - football activity to improve tactical play and passing ability Resources: Football and safety markers

- Students need to get into groups of 4 with 2 teams of 2
- Mark out an area that is approximately 15m x 10m
- Each team of players positions themselves on opposite sides of the pitch
- The challenge is for one team to try to kick the ball along the ground so it goes over the halfway mark with the players on the opposite side trying to stop them
- Players on the same team can pass to each other to get closer to the half way line

Break the record – walking activity
Resources: Safety markers or some other object to mark out 55m distances
- Whole Class
- Small Group
- Outdoor
- Mark out 16 x 55m distances around the school playground
- Tell the students that once they have done all 16 they will have completed half a mile
- Encourage students to spend break and lunchtimes walking the short distances, counting each one towards their mile
- Students could walk on their own, in pairs or in small groups
- Set a record each day for how long it takes and try to get students to break it the next day
