As part of this year's evaluation, Sport Relief and the Premier League have teamed up to offer two lucky teachers the chance to teach a lesson in Uganda. The competition has now closed and the judging committee have picked the two most compelling entries.
Our two winners and their fantastic entries are:
Suzanne Webb, Roundwood Primary School, Harpenden
'My life in a bag'
I would love to allow the children in Uganda to explore the differences and similarities between themselves and the children in my class. I would ask my class to put together a 'bag' containing clues about their interests, hobbies, ambitions, fovourite food, music, sport etc. I would then bring a selection of these bags to share with the Ugandan pupils and ask them what would be in their bag? What would be the same / different? I would then hope to allow the children to put together their own 'bags of life' with pictures, drawings or artefacts that explain who they are so that I could bring them back and share them with my class on my return. I'd like to teach the children it is both their similarities and differences that unite them : the world is not as big as we think.
Andrew Blaikie - Blackhall Primary School, Edinburgh
I would love to take Scotland to the world and teach our Ugandan cousins how to ceilidh dance!!!!
Music and dance are a great way to learn about and to share each others cultures. It would hopefully also be a chance to learn about their cultural heritage and take that back to the UK to share with the children and help them in their fundraising in the future. Personalising the cause and having a face or basic relationship to relate to, gives greater urgency and desire to support and care for others (and maybe a chance to form a partnership - twin schools)
It also acts as a fabulous way to share some fun and laughter and to develop relationships, showing our children that these people are our equals who can have a giggle, enjoy life and with our support build a better future for themselves and their families.
And the winners are...
